At one Leicester practice, the fee for an emergency appointment sits between £100 and £200, and what decides where you land is a single question: are you already a patient here?

That one detail tells you a lot about how emergency dental prices work in the city, and once you can see the pattern, choosing where to go with a sore tooth gets a whole lot calmer. So let's look at the numbers.

What It Costs to Be Seen Privately in Leicester

We went through the emergency prices Leicester practices published in October 2026, and the fee just to be seen ran from £40 at the low end to £200 at the top. That's for the appointment alone, with nothing yet done to the tooth.

At the lower end, one emergency clinic in the city charges £40 for an emergency consultation, with X-rays included in that fee, and it's open from 7am to 11pm every day. It does add a call-out fee for early, late and bank holiday slots, and it confirms that fee on the phone before you commit, which is worth knowing if you're booking first thing in the morning or late in the evening.

At the higher end is the practice with that one question, charging between £100 and £200 for an emergency appointment depending on whether you're registered there. It keeps weekday hours, with one Saturday morning a month.

So three things can move the price: whether X-rays are included, what time of day it is, and whether you're already on the practice's books. When you're ringing round in pain, it's worth asking about all three before you set off.

Why There Are Two Bills

Whichever of those doors you walk through, that first figure only pays for the dentist to examine you, work out what's wrong and explain your options. The work on the tooth itself, a filling, a root canal or an extraction, comes as a second bill on top.

It's a bit like a tradesperson's visit: the first figure gets someone round to look, and the second is the actual job. Knowing which of the two you're being quoted is the easiest way to compare like with like.

The NHS Urgent Route in Leicester

The NHS has an urgent route too, and the local NHS spells out how it works. If you have a dentist, you contact your own practice during the day. If you don't have one, or it's after 5pm on a weekday, a weekend or a bank holiday, you book the urgent appointment through NHS 111, either online or on the phone.

That urgent appointment is charged at £27.90 under the current NHS charges, and further treatment after it may cost extra.

The local NHS is also very clear on one point: please don't go to A&E or your GP with a problem with your teeth. Neither is set up to treat teeth, so it's a dentist you need, and our guide to emergency dentists versus A&E shows what each one can do.

What the Treatment Costs

Once you know what's wrong, the price of the fix depends on the tooth, so here are our prices as a yardstick you can hold any quote up against.

Small white fillings start at £149, and larger ones go up to £349. Saving a tooth with root canal treatment starts from £399. Taking out a wisdom tooth is £549, a complex extraction starts from £550, and crowns start from £650. And if you're already thinking about replacing a tooth, a dental implant is £1,999, with the crown on top included.

What We're Bringing to Leicester

At UrgentCare Dental, the emergency appointment costs £20 with the X-rays already in it, whether or not you've ever been to us before.

We're opening our Leicester clinic at Ophelia House, 41E The Parade in Oadby, about three miles south-east of the city centre, for emergencies and cosmetic work alike, with the same published prices as every UrgentCare Dental clinic.

The clinic will be open day and night, seven days a week, and an appointment after 11pm is £50. It's about an eleven-minute drive from the city centre on a clear road, and the way in is from the public car park at the back of 41 The Parade. Our Leicester clinic page has the full directions.

Your Questions, Answered Straight

How much is an emergency dentist in Leicester?

The Leicester practices publishing their emergency fees in October 2026 charged from £40 to £200 just to see you, depending on the practice, the time of day, and whether you were a registered patient. Treatment is charged on top. An urgent NHS appointment costs £27.90.

Can I go to A&E with a tooth problem in Leicester?

The local NHS asks people not to go to A&E or a GP practice with problems with their teeth, and to use NHS 111 for urgent dental care out of hours instead. If a swelling is making it hard to breathe or swallow, that's an emergency for 999.

Is there a 24 hour emergency dentist in Leicester?

For urgent NHS care out of hours, NHS 111 is open around the clock, and you book the urgent appointment through it. Private clinic hours vary, and some open into the late evening every day, so it's worth checking the hours, and any late-night fee, when you call. When our clinic in Oadby opens, it will be a 24-hour emergency dentist for Leicester, seeing you for £20, or £50 after 11pm.

Do I need to be registered to see an emergency dentist?

No. The NHS urgent route through 111 is open to anyone, and you don't need to be registered with us for our emergency appointment either. Some practices do set a higher fee for people who aren't already their patients, which is why it's worth asking.

The Short Version

So in Leicester, the first bill for a dental emergency runs from £40 to £200, and where you land depends on the practice, the hour, and whether you're already one of its patients. The NHS urgent route through 111 costs £27.90.

Our Oadby clinic is opening on The Parade with the same £20 appointment for everyone, X-rays included, and a late-night price of £50 after 11pm. Until it opens, we hope that tooth settles quickly. Most dental emergencies are very fixable once a dentist has had a look, and knowing what you'll pay is half the relief.
